Unless you are ready for the time and money it takes to do a conversion i would put some money into that 400 and drop it right back in. I did a 460 conversion in my 79 F-150 and the power is awsome, but i could have built up the 400 really strong for what i put into the 460.

Here's another vote for rebuilding and upgrading the 400. You can get lots of power out of these blocks, and the Bronco will handle better with the lighter weight engine.

What is the weight difference between the engines? I dunno what a 460 weighs, but a 400 is VERY heavy!

i know when i had my 351M in my old 78 i painted the shocks black with the motor in it sitting on level ground (were originally white) and when i put the 460 in..where i had painted the shocks black, there was about half inch to 3/4 of an inch white so i'm going to say that the 460 is lighter because of the white i see....i would of liked to have had a 429 in it than a 460...429 is more of a performance motor than a 460 isn't it?

and a 429 or 460 weighs about 130# more than a 351w..or about another 65# more than a 400.

The 460 is is the performance engine for a truck..not the 429. A 460 is simply a stroked 429 (oversimplifying a bit,..you still need the 'good' heads from any 429, or 460 PI or early Lincoln..but I'm sure you get my drift).

you go thru the headaches of fabbing up SEFI for your 400, so why now are you saying you wished you had done a 460?

No replacement for displacement, Bucko.
??..so you got some physics to support how less than 50 cubic inches more of shorter-stroke large-bore displacement produces some kind of magic in the torque department...?

For example...Let's discuss why the 250 I6 is such an astounding powerhouse when compared to the 170 it came from....NOT.

I break enough shit with the 400. but in saying that I would also like to hear how the extra 50 CI is going to be so much more power?

Or is it your just not happy with the way your build turned out?
