I was driving home and as soon as I parked I heard the fan hit the floor. I was like WTFrench...
I replaced the water pump over a year ago and put the fan on without a problem. So I put it back on, but the pulley starts turning while I am turning the big nut on the fan.
So my question is why would it all of a sudden come loose and fall off?
And, how can I tighten it with the pulley moving?

On the "big nut" fan clutches I generally use my air hammer with a looong chisel, has worked without problems...
I would NOT suggest loctite unless you plan on using alot of heat later when you have to remove it.

How do you know it was "all of a sudden"? When was the last time that you checked it?

You may find squeezing the fan belt a bit may keep it from slipping while you tighten it down.
