Howdy! brand new bronco owner. 93 XLT. very excited and also very happy to have found this forum!

First thing I gotta fix is the tailgate panel seems to be from the previous generation bronco. Pre 87 I guess.

I know the tailgates themselves are interchangeable from the different years, and I also know this isn’t the original tailgate. Are the tailgate panels also interchangeable? I don’t want to buy an 87 To 96 panel and then not be able to fit it on my truck!

thanks!

Yo ShenValleyBronco,
Welcome!
Your bottom trim panel fits 84 through 86 Broncos

Swapping (t'gate differences between the years); "...Amazingly throughout the number of body style changes from 78 through 96, the tailgate remained nearly the same. You can swap tailgates between all of these years taking note of the following: I've broken down the 3 major changes into their respective years. 78-79 Type A; 80-82 Type B; 83-96 Type C; If your swapping within the same type it's just a direct swap. If swapping A & B you have to switch the glass and glass support brackets; If swapping B & C you have to switch latches and striker plates; If swapping A & C you have to switch the glass, glass support brackets, latches & striker plates..."

94-96 aftermarket tailgates have carpet push-pins holes, causing aftermarket interchange to stop at 1993 model year. So in say, 93 tailgates, you need to drill outside holes for a trim panel, and drill inside holes if you want to install carpeting pad.

ASAP find out if speed control, if equipped, recall work is completed. Check @ Recalls Look-up by VIN (Vehicle Identification Number); or @ Welcome to Ford Owner | Official Ford Owner Site; or ... have VIN ready. While there, see most Ford dealer maintenance/repairs done @ any dealership nation-wide.
"Summary: ON CERTAIN PICKUP TRUCKS, PASSENGER VEHICLES, SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, AND MOTOR HOMES CHASSIS, THE SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH MAY, UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS, LEAK INTERNALLY AND THEN OVERHEAT, SMOKE, OR BURN. THIS COULD RESULT IN AN UNDERHOOD FIRE."
See this guide by jowens1126 to confirm recall status @ 93 & 94-96 Cruise Control Recalls Repair
Note that the 93 recall is different than 94-96.

Thanks for all the info!

So my Bronco is a 93 XLT (but 99% sure it's not the original tailgate). It currently has a panel like this, which if it's for an 84-86 I want to update - but it also sounds like the correct year trim might not fit my tailgate (since it's currently rocking an 84-86 panel). Guess the only way to know is pop it off!
