Hi gang, it's been a while since I posted anything here. My bronco has been on the road a year and a half after sitting in storage for 8 years. Got it running and riding great.
About 2 months ago my left front inner bearing diissinigrated so I rebuilt both front hubs and brakes. All was fine with the hubs.
I noticed the other day that my front hubs were getting real warm, more heat behind the wheel, meaning the dust covers and the piece that the calipers attach to. Today I checked things out. Wheel bearings were fine. Wheels had alot of drag. Pulled the wheels, removed the calipers. Hubs spin free. So I compress the caliper piston, clean, relube and reinstall the calipers and wheels. Tires spin free with just a little bit of drag.
I take it for a ride and hit the brakes several time along the way. When I get back, the hubs are real warm again. So I jack it up and both tires spin free with just alittle drag.
Now for my question. The brake pads I put on were Autozon's life time warranty pads. Do the life time pads generate more heat than standard pads or does it just depend what material the pads are made of?
What puzzled me was that the caliper it self was not warm at all. I'm assuming that the brake pad is generating heat on the rotor side of the pad and not transfering the heat to the caliper side of the pad.
By the way, when I redid the front hubs, I installed new hubs, bearings, rotors, calipers and pads.
