Just lookin' for possible ideas on how to mount some front recovery points on my pickup. I would mount them in front of the crumble zone, but when they previous owner installed a body lift, he cut the front of the frame horns because they got in the way of the bumper, when it was relocated higher up. I really don't like the idea of havin' them just welded on. I always feel safer with some grade 8 bolts holding recovery points on. Any ideas on how, and where, to mount them?

Best picture I have showing where my front frame horns are cut.

I'm thinking of doin' somethin' like this. Welding a piece of plate, or angle to the according part of the frame, then laying a piece of plate on the inside of the frame when bolting it down. To give it a flat point to press against, sandwiching the accordion part of the frame. Thoughts?

Technically, the frame is ruined - Ford recommends NOT trying to repair the crumple zones. But since you're not going to change the frame, your options are fairly wide-open.

It's certainly easier to get a good bolted joint than a good weld, and a damaged bolt is far easier to identify & repair. I'd weld in a repair piece to replace whatever was cut away, and then bolt some stock eyes to that. These are the type I prefer because they're common, sturdy, versatile, and available in either cast iron or Aluminum.

But there are MANY styles available:

Just got these today from the JY. Best I could find there. No late model Fords. Pulled em off a chevy. I'm gonna start working on mounting them tomorrow. Will be taking some pics of what I figure out for them.
