Ok so they put mustang 5.o ho injectors in my 351 bronco. Its run fine for 2 months, but when i did a tune-up,the plugs were very lean.So I got 8 new injectors(ouch!),and had them put in.The truck runs smooth, but idlesvery low and sometimes dies at a red light. The shop said they need to calabrate to the computer because the computer was over compensating with the 5.0 injectors, and now needs to adjust to the new injectors? Is this true? How long to calabrate them?Any help? Thanks guys.Oh yea its a 88 if that matters!!

1) Don't ever take your truck to that shop again, they're ****ing retards and haven't the slightest clue of what they're talking about.

2) Any injector that came in a stock 5.0 or 5.8 from any car, truck, van, rocket, etc, had 19lb/hr injectors in it. It doesn't matter if it's from a 302 HO, truck 302, anything.

The plugs aren't lean looking because of your injectors, so send those ones back, and put the other ones back in.

Check fuel pressure, and check your TPS voltage. Search for the TPS thread by Xris. Pull codes.

Yeah, it's absolutely silly that they told you that. All the same stuff. The computer controls the fuel/air mixture by how long it leaves the injectors open. That's it. If you're running lean, you're either not getting enough fuel to the injectors, or a sensor is telling the computer close them too soon. Fuel pressure is super easy to check, just need a pressure guage. Fairly inexpensive. If you don't want to buy one, you could probably rent one from one of the auto parts stores. However, how much did those new injectors cost? Ouch!

108 each!! I have no codes either, nor did I with the old injectors! The plug looked real lean, then after I got 8 new ones,he told me it was just one injector that was causing it to be lean.By then i had all 8 and its stupid to put in only 1 ,so i did all 8. I changed the plugs yesterday, and Now I need to check them again to see if they are still lean!!What a joke this is becoming!!I just dont want to burn up a piston or anything else bad!!!

93 Cobras had 24lb hr injectors.

You payed $108.00 each for 8 injectors :shocked

It only costs $214 for all 8!!

Always research here before buying :doh0715:

Check your fuel pressure.
How old is your o2 sensor?

How did you decide the plugs read lean? I have yet to pull a set of plugs from a properly running EFI engine that were not clean and white as they day they were installed. As an old fart that's been building engines and reading plugs for 35 years, it is true that what the plugs look like coming out of computer-controlled engines these days would be read as 'lean' in the old days...beacuse in the old days you couldn't stay so close to the optimum AFR without being too lean too often..so yr average AFR was by necesity richer* and the plugs were tan to light brown if all ws good.

*which is why the EFI engines typically run a few mpg better than their carbed predecessors for the same HP.

I dunno where your living but I would tell them your calling the BAR on them because $108 per injector is insane, when even new ford injectors are cheaper than that

Well on my atv's that plug would be considered lean by the color, but Im no expert.Like I said, its running good, but Im afraid of burning a piston! As far as changing 1 injector, the intake had to come off,so doing 1 is pointless right? Also, how do I raise the idle speed? Thanks!

Thats where they came from!! FORD DEALER,also they said the injectors are different from a 5.0 to a 5.8,but my understanding is that the clips are the only thing different.Anyway, its done, but trying to save the bronco from more major problems!!I need a real shop to go to!!

any how.

the idle

find the idle control motor, see if it is plugged in, if it is, unplug it to see if the idle changes. If not then yours is either stuck, which happens alot. you can clean them or put on a new one. I beleive Gacknar is the one who did a write up on how to clean the carbon out of them.

how many miles on your truck?

Unless it is stalling out or idleing way high, you dont. And as long as no one has missed with it you shouldn't have to.

Wow man, just wow.

Injectors are the same from a 5.0 to a 5.8. Yeah, Gack is right, the Cobras got 24/lb hr, but they're also not a 'typical' 5.0... lol

I'm gonna go with either fuel pressure or your TPS... probably your TPS, because of your funky idle problems. You can't set the idle on these, it's controlled by the computer, but you can adjust your BASE idle... but if it's never been tampered with, then it shouldn't need to be adjusted.

FYI, disconnecting the battery, and pushing the brake pedal for about 15 sec. Then reconnecting it is about all the "recalibrating" you would need anyway. You can do that yourself if you had to, which in this case you don't. You only really need to recalibrate the computer out of the truck if you change something major on the motor from stock.

Your ATV is most likely carburated as well, which is why comparing the ATV plugs to the FI small block plugs is a horrible example.

Your ATV would look like its running lean with the color of a fuel injected plug. They have to run so rich because a carb cant control a near perfect stoichmetric AFR like a FI car/truck/anything can. What do you have for an ATV by the way?

This is what I got when I clicked on the authors name for that writeup. I love the random "Bronco Inj cleaning" link at the bottom.
