You can take the filler tube & gas cap fitting out, put the tube on the tank, & put the filler back in. That tube doesn't bend much at all. There are 3 small hex head metric screws in the filler door & a couple hose clamps IIRC holding all that in. Pretty easy once you have done it. Sounds like you have a gas thief in your neighborhood. Also IIRC that tube is larger on one end than the other, try a junk yard. I know the 86-88 tubes are larger, I'll compare to my 95 in the morning.
