I have a Garmin GPS and see where that Garmin offers the regional topographical maps that show the national and state forest, service and fire access roads, creeks lakes ect and these seem they would be great for finding or exploring new areas.

Has anyone ever used these maps and care to comment about whether they find them useful or not?

Mine has topo. Great for wheeling.

my garmin etrex Hcx has topo but I don't think I've seen access roads for wheeling. just gives you a heads up on forestry, rivers, and whatnot.

I use my netbook, USB GPS and Earthbridge and it shows me a full color picture of where I'm at and where I'm heading including all trails, fire, powerline and pipeline roads. It even shows mines and ghost towns.:toothless Beats the living hell out of a topo map...you don't have to interpret anything.:thumbup I have a Garmin GPS for driving on the highways and streets.
