I know.....search.....what gear ratio in a 79 bronco 351m/400 10.25 rear for 37-40 tires?

37" tire, 4.56 gears, 116.2" circ, forward 25.5", identical to stock (within error)
37" tire, 4.88 gears, forward 23.8", about 9% less than stock.

That being said, about a 4.88 for close to stock feel with a 40" tire. You can go higher and lower form there, I suggest you check that tread out. There's a lot of good info.

Stock ratio is 3:55's. I went with 4:56's and 38's to keep near stock RPM's. (2700 RPM's @ 65 MPH) I would also do the same with 37's. If your going 40's then I would run 4:88's.

I stuck with 5.13's because 5.38's for a 14 bolt were not sold then, and even now the only one who has them is yukon. :uke:

i went with 5.38 because i couldn't go any lower in the high pinion D60, and whats wrong with yukon?

don't like yukon gears, some times they are a good brand name other times they are well what ever cheap pos china made gear set they could find in the box. since yukon is the only 5.38 14 bolt maker, they are a pos gear set.

I wouldn't go over 4:88's unless your going over 40" tires... Here play with this...

I'm looking to do pretty much the same thing. As soon as I decide on 4.88's, I'll change my mind, and decide on 4.56's...then back the other way. It's definatly between the two (and if they actually made one in the middle, I'd just go with those...guess it can't be that easy.) I'm leaning towards 4.88's...at the moment, I don't think that would put my rev's too high for highway use...I'd just like to keep them under 3000 at like 60~65.

Any rear end that is rebuilt (if done properly) is well worth $250. A junk yard take you chances rear end is going to cost you close to that.
