ive read on a coulpe of other threads where people go from 4HI/LO to 2HI to make a tight turn on the trail. i have a '94 EB with push button 4WD and auto hubs. my problem is, when i take it out of 4WD to put it back in 2WD, to do this i have to drive in reverse for about 10-20 yards to get the bronco back into 2WD after i pressed the 4WD button to take it out of 4WD. why is that? its pretty irritating, especially when i have people behind me who have to back up just so i can get the damn thing out of 4WD to make 1 stupid turn. is there something i can fiddle with to stop this tom foolery?

Replace the crap auto hubs. Problem solved.
and if you do any off roading more than once a year you will want better hubs. The autos are poorly made and will break on you when you will really need them. The change is Super easy to do and you can go to Jeffs Bronco Graveyard and get a nice set of Warn or Mile Marker for about 75 bucks. Do a search on here and see how it's done. It's easier then it looks.

so its all in the hubs? i thought it was the transfercase. so with manuel hubs, i can take it out of 4WD to get it back to 2WD without driving in reverse? im just asking to make sure i understand correctly. ive had the bronco for about 2 years now, taken it off road id say about 10-15 times since ive owned it. the hubs always worked. bronco does awesome with a 2.5" lift and 31x10.50 BFG Land Terrains. i have read many many times on here to change to the Warn Premium hubs. the auto hubs come out easy as pie, ive done it a few times when working on the truck. but when i get home(almost there) i will replace the autos with manuels. thanks for the advice bro!

The only reson for reversing direction is to unlock the hubs. You don't need to unlock the hubs to switch from 4WD to 2WD. Changing from 4WD to 2WD is to disengage the transfer case which takes the stress of a tight turn off the front drive shaft and axles which is what limits the turn radius.

Good luck,

because when you are in 4WD, HI or LO your turning radius gets bigger. you cant turn as sharp as you could if you were in 2WD.
you wouldve thought i noticed that:duh

Get a locker in the rear axle, that way, you can just mash on the gas and cut the wheel, and your turning radius greatly increases. :toothless
