That's neat, I was going to just use tape and paper.
Of course I don't have any cards.
Well, that complicates it.🙂 But they're probably cheaper than a roll of masking tape. I can't believe the price of that stuff currently. I wonder if the slick surface of the cards helps to free them from the paint easier than masking tape. A quick look online shows that Walmart has a deck for under a buck. I think I'm going to give it a try next time.

taping in a circle is the ultimate p.i.t.a. (trying to make a straight edge go round 🙄}
Absolutely. At work I frequently need to tape around new toilets prior to siliconing the gap to the floor. It's a pain. My best solution so far has been to teach my helper to do that job. 🙃

Yeah, but sometimes I'm working in megabuck houses with tile & grout that absorbs silicone. On some of those materials there's no wiping it off. And the tape leaves a crisp line. I do the finger trick before pulling the tape. Plus if it's an uneven floor, I need to level the toilet with shims before the silicone. Then hide the shims in the bead.

As for being mean, I've been teaching that guy everything I can, just like I was taught. He's getting to be a pretty good plumber.

have you ever tried using windex? works great. lay your bead of silicone then spray with windex. it wont stick to anything that has windex on it, so when you run your finger over it, you still get nice lines and its not spread everywhere.
Rather than turn this into a "how I silicone a toilet thread", I layed out how & why over in post 77 of the Tips & Tricks thread.
