GM LS1 swap into Bronco...

Ok remember guys... This area is flame free... :D

First let me say I love all things American made - no real brand loyalty. I love Ford Trucks, Old GM Muscle cars, Ford Pony cars and anything Original or 2nd Gen HEMI. The New Challenger is pretty cool too.

Anyway all I've been hearing about is how the LS motors make stupid power and get great economy so I've been itching to play with one. If I wasn't so far into building a 454 for my 70 Chevelle I'd put one in there.

This is most likely just a hypothetical build but what about swapping an LS motor, 4L80 and NP241 into a Bronco? Right now I'm planning on buying a roller shortblock 351, heads, built AOD, rebuilding my t-case, custom exhaust and changing over to a MAF setup. Other then mounts it seems like almost the same to do a LS swap... Maybe driveshafts.

Anybody else think about this or am I the only one?

It just doesn't seem right........
Don't hate me for it... I'm just thinking outside the brand box... Kinda like how everyone puts 9" rears in everything...
i actually have a friend thats been talking about how when he saves up the money throwing an ls6 into his 78 f150 but then again he has some crazy dreams for that truck
If guys can throw in a powerstroke i can see ls swap happening. I think it would be sweet because EVERYBODY knows gm did something right when they built the Ls1. Great engine, in a sweet truck I say do iiiittt.

Nope, I've thought about it as well. If I had to do my engine swap all over again, I would seriously consider going this route. There's already so much work moving from a stock speed density 302 or 351 to a performance ford MAF motor that you might as well do whatever extra conversion work there is for an LS1, and realize all of the big advantages it has. I say go for it.
Man cards revoked...I can see a duramax but a ls1 and you will have to get a clocking ring for the transfer case cause the chevy is a passenger side output for the front..

I can change that :deal

Seriously, if you want to do that, go for it.

I NEVER would because of the constant ribbing the A$$bag chevy owners around here would give me. Same reason a 14bolt is out for me, it's not the product, it's the people.

But hey, I've had some really bad experiences with A$$hat chevy enthusiasts.
That's kinda like banging your sister. It might feel good, but it's just not right. :beer

i think it would be an awesome idea. those engines make stupid power, stupid easy, and are stupid tough.
i dont know how one responds to that
That depends......

Is your sister hot?
thread goes downhill in 5....4...3....2...1.....

according to friends yes according to me its my sister so i dont think so
it's like me thinking about dropping in the M62 in my Bronco. BMW and RR uses the TU version of the motor (pretty much the same except the TU comes with variable valve timing) and so does the WildCat (see Top Gear) and the S62 derived from the same motor. If i had the money, I would grab a rust free, low mile bronco and do try out the swap but it'll only be for entertainment purposes... something to humor myself
Their is no way to respond to that, same as their is no way to respond to putting a LS1 inna Ford.
An LS1 would fit nice . . . in a blazer.

Seriously, the 68-72 blazers are pretty nice. Why screw up a Bronco when you could have a nice blazer?

(I am trying to be as positive as I can in a no-flame zone, but I don't think it worked out well!)

:popc1:
hey, if an LS1 will fit in a nissan 240sx with some work, it'll fit in a bronco with some work, i say go for it, the LS1 is a good motor........for a GM built product

and yes, it really fits

you can make anything fit in anything its just a matter of if someone wants to make it fit a small block chevy into a ford cant be to hard
Man cards revoked...I can see a duramax but a ls1 and you will have to get a clocking ring for the transfer case cause the chevy is a passenger side output for the front..
I know I'm such a wuss for wanting to put a 400+hp motor in my Bronco... :toothless

And you can get an NP241 with a driver's side drop IIRC.

Geeze swapping a GM motor into a Ford is like sleeping with your sister? I was thinking it was only 2nd cousin territory... :histerica
