I called Ford a few weeks ago and asked for the build sheet on my '78 and it arrived yesterday. It confirmed that my Bronco is almost 100% as it came from the factory stock. A couple of surprises though. It has black pin stripping around the belt-line trim which I had assumed was added by the original or second owner (I am the third owner). The build sheet shows it came from the factory that way. Second surprise is a "Spark Plug Tire Pump" is listed as a factory installed option. I can imagine what it is but I don't think it is still on the truck. Anybody seen one of these? Anybody got a pic?

Anyways the build sheet will make a nice scrap book addition . . . :thumbup

I've seen the plug tire pumps before, but I don't have a pic of one. It's just a thing that you screw into a plug hole and it pumps up the tire...

While I have never seen one on a Bronco.... The spark plug tire pump was offered way back when by several makers.

You would remove a spark plug and screw this device in its place. With the engine running it would create a two stage pump for the air that was needed to fill a tire.

Mostly in very very old cars. I've seen a demo on a Model A.

Anyway I could get a phone number or email address so I could get the sheet for mine?
1-800-392-3673

This is the number to the Ford Customer Relationship Center. Just ask for a build sheet for the original specifications and optional equipment. They will take your contact info and VIN and pass it on to their Research Unit. The Research Unit should call you back to confirm the VIN within a week or so. Then you should get it in the mail in about a month. It's not really a build sheet (like one you might find in the in vehicle from the factory) but just a letter with specs and options. I ordered one for my 74 Ranger and one for my 78 Custom. Supposedly Ford has complete records back to 67 and some before that.

I've got a question:
The sheet says full time 4 wheel drive. Does that mean it has a NP 203? I thought that all '78s had a 205. Or was the 203 with full time 4 wheel drive an option.

and related to the spark plug tool, I saw on some show on the powerblock this weekend where they used an old spark plug and air connector to make a leak down testing tool... Interesting. Wonder if you could use the spark plug tool for that as well?

Yes, it has a 203. I think it's fairly well optioned for a Custom.

They came with either the full time NP203 case, or the part time NP205. Usually [but not always] the NP203 came behind an automatic, but I picked up a 78 Custom with a Auto/NP205.

I should call and see if they could get the info on my '66 F100. :toothless
