I finally finished my 5.8 and AO Dominator swap this evening (or at least finished it enough to want to test drive it). Everything works fine in Park, Neutral, and Reverse. When I put it into Overdrive, Drive, or 1, it grinds like a mofo. It sounds like the starter is engaged, or like when you try to shove a manual transmission into gear without the clutch.

I hooked the tranny to the engine outside of the Bko, and followed the Haynes and the instructions that came with the tranny. It seems strange to me that it works fine in reverse, but not in drive.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just discovered something that I'm sure tells me something important, I'm just not sure how to interpret it. If the t-case is in neutral, the trans doesn't grind when I put it in Drive....any ideas? :shrug :scratchhe

will it even move?
are you sure its not your t-case doing the grinding.
if its fine in the other gears, then where it mates to the t-case should be fine

It will move in reverse, and it has to turn the t-case to do that, too. And it's a rebuilt t-case, so I'm hoping it's ok, too.
