I'm setting up a gym in a room in the basement. I bought a bunch of those 2x2 interlocking foam mats to use. I'm wondering that if I lay the foam tiles on the cement floor will they act like a wick and soak up any moisture. Should I lay down a plastic vapour barrier first, with acoustical sealant at the edges?

yes, definitely. i know that laying a regular wood floor over cement they advise you to use the vapor barrier. i don't see this as being any different.

Yep, definitely put at least something down. Also, if you put any machines down there make sure you set them on wood/plates to distribute the weight. Otherwise they'll tear the crap out of your foam over time.
