putting the 351w together...using NAPA head gaskets...they had a metal side to them...it was more like the metal ribbing was showing on one side and not the other...they were marked front on them...i just forgot to look when i was doing them last night

i put the metal ribbing side against the block

was that right or do i ahve to tear half of it down again:banghead

I can't remember what side it is supposed to be, but the gasket should have had it printed on the gasket as to what side goes where.

'Front' on the gasket means exactly that..toward the front of the motor. With most mfrs gaskets, this means that the side of the gasket facing 'up' will be different on one side than the other. The 'Front' designation is there to make sure you get the main water transfer port to the heads in the back of teh block. Put one on back to front and you will quickly find out all about overheating.
