if a vehicle blew a head gasket wouldnt the oil become contaminated immediately? or the exhaust start smelling like antifreeze?

depends on how bad it blew.

If it is totally blown than oil and coolant could be mixed together and burning. One my f150 there was a leaky head gasket, some coolant in the oil creating a sluggy consistancy. Also the coolant could be burning creating sweet smelling smoke than lingers.

Compression test. :thumbup

Easy enough to do and if you don't have a guage, you can rent one from Autozone or similar parts stores.

some times a compression test will show a bad gasket and other times it will not. i would do the compression and document the information and then follow it up with a cylinder leak down test it will show bad gasket/ rings/ valves.....mike
