I just pulled out my detroit locker from my rear end where the ring has about 7 teeth sheared off and the pinion gear is chewed up pretty good. I have the ring off the locker, how can I fully inspect this thing besides just visually looking it all over. On the plain side there are 6 allen head bolts one of which is a retaining bolt for the carrier pin, would I be screwing anything up inside the locker if I were to remove those 6 allens and lift that part up if possible? I am asking this because while removing the locker from the diff I rotated the axles one time where the carrier did not move at all and there was a definite "clicking" sound coming from the locker but yet I have inspected both axles which all seem to be fine.

any ideas?
