I have a chance to get myself my first Bronco. Now I am a married man, and a stay at home dad. Time is something I have a ton of, space is not.

Now, I will be up front here, I have no blood clue what I should be looking for in ways of things to avoid.

What you see is what I have seen, nothing more. Person selling wants 1200 for it. Has a rebuilt engine, it doesn't need anything mechanically. a/c works, heat works, has a new water pump, thermostat, plugs, wires, filters, fresh fluids.

My wife has this habit of saying that I can do everything and anything I want perfectly....except picking out cars....(she might have a point) But really, I would love to know what I should be really looking for.

It is doing to be a daily driver and weekend repair project.

Any help would be great.

Well from the pictures it is very clean.

Test drive it for sure, listen for any noises, look out for vibrations, if it pulls to one side it might need an alignment. [not having the radio on helps]

Get under the truck, find out it its rusting out under that purdy body, any fluid leaks.

What kind of engine was rebuilt in it, and how many miles does it have on it now.

Where are you located? Maybe a member could look at it with you.

Phoenix Az

I know it is a AZ truck, now of course it could have made its way out of state at some point.

As for the rebuilt engine, not sure what was put in there. I have been doing this deal for the last week and will be meeting up with the owner this weekend to see if I want it.

any pictures under the hood? That's where I would start looking.

The side marker light missing and that gap at the driver side fender-door looks odd and makes me want to look for collision damage.

But, start with what has been suggested already.

Cheers

Possible purchase

Go to the Southwest Forum page and scroll down to a thread that starts "Az crew how long has it been". Several of the guys posting there are from Phoenix, Gilbert, Mesa or Scottsdale. Send them a PM and I am sure you will get a response. Someone local will be able to help you I am sure. Good luck.

Check out all the body panels. Especially around the lips, front and back. Don't be afraid to push a little, that way you know its solid. Check under the floor boards for any serious rust.

Borflink mentioned body damage, so check out that drivers side and all around. Check the frame near the steering box (been told they have a tendency to crack around that area.)

See if the window goes up and down in the back. CHECK the ENTIRE tailgate for rot. If you can put it down, do so and check the enire thing.

Thats all I can think.

75th Ave and Bell... I could do that. Post or PM me with more details (time etc) as they become available and I will try to make it. I think we should inspect the undercarriage (look or cracks around steering box and cross members), motor, fluids, drivelines, body for rust/bondo etc, pull codes (what year is it?), and we will need someplace that is not paved (dirt lot or road) that we can put it in 4 wheel drive. Have him bring all documentation he has of work done (motor rebuild etc).

Thank you everyone for the help.

A quick update on what is going on.

Phoenix is smaller then I thought, as I was speaking to a friend of mine about my plans on buying this Bronco. Long story short, he happen to know the person selling.

So sometime tonight everyone and thier mother will be gathered at my place. (He got the guy to come to me with it, which I find fantastic)

So one of two things will happen, I will buy it and spend the night with a few buddies crawling over the thing like it was the last woman on earth.

or

One of my buddies buys it because I deside I don't want too....

But I am banking on buying it as long as there is nothing major wrong with it.

That left front fender has me skeptical, and are those some funky seat covers hiding some tore up seats? Good luck, offer him $800.00 and see what happens.

http://phoenix.en.craigslist.org/car/542178408.html ***351 efi/c6- very tough combo, price is kinda high, $1500 would be a good deal.

http://phoenix.craigslist.org/car/531244999.html Rare. Eddie bauer 5spd. Either a 302 or a 300. If its a 302 I would get it.

Anyway.. what Im trying to say is theres nothing special about that bronco you are looking out. Its carbed, so you will get crappy mpg. Its primer, the interior is majorly faded.
Some of these efi broncos are the same price, I would get them over that carbed truck. 88-89 efi 351/c6 would be perfect. The c6 doesn't have overdrive, but its great for wheeling and you have the efi engine so you are way ahead in technology compared to a carbed engine. Or even a bronco with a efi 302/ and 5 spd.
