I killed the AOD (updated with new trans pics)

Well, I finally killed the AOD, cracked the case :cry :histerica :cry :histerica :cry

Pulled the extension housing to replace the gaskets and trans mount.
But it's cracked :cry

When if came off 2 chunks of alum fell on the ground :cry

I looked up and found where they came from :cry

So, now I get to find a 4R70W :thumbup and waist more money on my Bronco :cry

I ordered a 4R70W from a 2001 Mountianer with only 36,000 miles for $580 shipped.
Ford got the 4R70W updates completed in 1999, so it should handle over 700ft/lb with simple upgrades.

Not sure what computer or tuning software I'll run:
1996-01 Explorer (need to convert TFI to coil pack and OBD-II)
1996-97 F-150 (need to convert to OBD-II)
1994-95 Mustang (need convert A9L to U4P0)

He blowed up his AOD because it's behind a fairly warmed up 351, which they never were (in trucks) as 351s were a bit too torquey for the stock AODs.

Most of us would welcome not having the computer involved in our transmissionns, but Ryan can't wait to start playing with it. That will be a good thing for the rest of us as I'm sure he'll be pioneering the whole swap for the rest of us.

True, although several companies re-engineer AODs to last behind 1100 hp engines. Lentechautomatics.com makes 4X4 AODs that should outlast the truck even behind a 351.

Anything to keep the computer the F outta my transmission !

I live 8 miles from the SOBs. My neighbour has a 5.0 litre in his Studebaker that he beats the whee out of daily.

4.10 gears and his right foot lunched his AOD so he went to Lentech and they sold him one he absolutely loves ! Barks in 3 gears !

Probably pay for itself in mileage for you

I bet that completely trashed tranny mount didn't help either. I bet all the shock went straight into the tranny case.

I checked them out...the prices aren't too awful bad. $1995 for the tranny, torque converter, and a T-shirt.
