I finally got a chance to set the motor and trans on the perch's today and it sits in there like it was made for it! I think I might be able to use the M's radiator hose's too, that big ass radiator wont have any problem's keeping that motor cool! SWEEEET!:chili:

did you make or buy them mounts? take them from a 2wd truck? pictures?

The mount's I used came off the 351w that I pulled from a van, so yes they are stock 2whl mounts

blasphemy
BLASPHEMY! my ass, look at the price of gas, I'll still make good power, its a 351w blower motor on nitrous, I think I'll be ok

I did take pictures but they came out crappy, its a cheap digital and I was going to take different ones, but seeing how you feel so strongly about it here ya go

I don't see how a 351W is any better on gas then a 351M.

I can't see the pics at work will have to check them out later, but anyway.

What trans are you useing ?
This is going to be one of those remove my head from ass questions but what is the big difference between the two engines?

The 351w is similar in architecure to a 302, whereas a 351m 0r 400 is built on the cleveland architecure.

RS 66..... I like it. Youre doing something different. windsors are great motors. :thumbup
Ya know what you guys are absolutely right , they are both the same cubic inch's? I never even thought of it that way :doh0715: , I was stuck in the big block ,small block thing even though the M is theroreticly not a big block, I had the W motor and c-6 trans in my street gasser 65 falcon that I was building when I got the bronco, I had bought a 460 for the bronk because the M was knocking hard, but decided to sell the falcon and focus on the bronco, the 460 needed a rebuild and the 351w was allready rebuilt so I kept it and sold the 460, I then rebuilt the 2whl drive c-6 for the windsor and swapped out-put shafts to convert it to 4whl, as far as the differences between the 351m and the 351w, the windsors' heads are not as good but the oiling system is far superior than the m's and parts are more easily availible, eventually I want to take the heads from the M and build a stroked clevor out of a spare windsor that I have, the 351m is also a torque monster compared to the windsor so I am told, the windsor has a more high reving power band as to where the m makes its power down low, the windsor will still make good power it just wont have that low rpm grunt of the M, now if any of this is wrong then please feel free to correct me, for I am still a vigin ford man, I just got into them 3yrs ago when I bought the falcon, but have allways like the idea of 4whl drive so when i found the bronk I had to have it! now those pics I posted sucked! , it was late when I put them up and I did something wrong? I'm going to take more and try again

Thanks ep72 ,I like to color outside the lines too, we cant all have cookie cutter trucks, just cause everyone else wants to go big dont mean I have to, I'm trying to build an all around good truck capable of taking whatever I throw at it , we'll see how it works, the newer bronks all had small block and work just fine, and they are still about the same size truck, only I dont have to do a sas in mine and I got a np205 to boot, I dont know why some of the 78-79 guys all cry foul if you dont go big block? atleast I'm bringing it back from the dead, it was heading for the boneyard when I got it, and a rusty peice of crap at that, ya know nobody crys when everyone goes out and bounces these things off trees and rocks and hacks the snot out of them, but put a small block in one and listen to the moans? I plan on keeping this truck for a long time so I will stick with a motor thats easy to fix when my heavy right foot blows the guts out of it ;) I think the coffie is kickin in, can ya tell??? :chili:

I have a windsor in my 78 . You say you got the engine in what about the tranny and transfer ? The windsor sits lower and it rotates the back of the Tcase upwards towards the floor and it might hit the rib under the floor unless you use the late model tranny mount.

I think the windsor is a huge improvement over a 351M myself. The 351m engines dont have more torque than a windsor in any year they were made.
I don't think there is anything wrong with what you are doing. It a good swap for what you are doing with it.

What trans are you useing ? C4 ? AOD ?
Go get em man. If i had the $$ id put a late model fuel injected 5.8w in my 78. Its no 460, but its one of the best motors ford made IMO.
The c-6 trans is on the motor along with its 2400 hole shot stall convertor but I did'nt bolt up the transfer yet ( notice how I answered 2 questions there?) I will definitly check out that clearence issue, thanks for that info ( if its made of metal I can modify it!) this was just a test fit? but it looks pretty good but I did'nt crawl under it, and glad to know I'm not alone on this! when I first started thinking about the windsor idea before I even got the truck, I was doing research on all the sites I could find for broncos, and I was catching alot of flack for it so SORRY if I was being testical about it? thats why I ended up buying a 460 for it! but then decided I was letting everyone else dictate what I was doing so I DID IT MY WAY!! I just dont understand the big deal? as far as the fuel injected idea, someday I think I want to go propane, I'm all into alternative fuel ideas too!

my windsor has been in for 8 years or so I love it.

You can use the late model tranny mount. You can slice the existing mount and reweld it. Or if you have a body lift you can ignore the whole thing. If you do drop the tranny just drop the tcase mount or modify its bushing to be thinner. I left my tcase mount alone and reversed the bushing i think .
So just what engine mounts did you use for this install? I have a C9 351W in the back that I'd love to use in my Bronco along with a 4x4 AOD. I don't do anything extreme but I love to drive my Bronco, so the mileage is killing me. I think the combo of an EFI 351W and AOD (most likely with wide ratio swap) would really work out well... so can you further detail what engine mount brackets you used?
Any of the 80 and up 351 w or 302 truck or bronco motor mounts .
Thanks. For ease I'm looking at just building a 400, but I don't know at this point.
Exactly what I was thinking on the mounts, I used a set that I had sitting around that came off of a 351w out of a 2whl drive van? it sits right on the perch's like it should, and I do have a body lift because there is no clearence issue's, I would love to go efi and aod but I allready had these parts! my pics just are not coming out right but I'll try it again? I cant figure out how to size them
