Inertia Switch....just some FYI

I took some pictures for Deathmonkey, to show him where the intertia switch is on a 93 model year Bronco. We determined it wasn't his inertia switch, unfortunately he has more issues. But since i took the pictures, i figured i would post them for some other people and the newbies.

Step 1:

Remove passenger side kick-panel: (thanks to the P.O. mine doesn't require actually removing any interior screws)

Step 2:

Locate the switch (on mine the button is red, but it may be yellow or another color) push the switch down to reset it (push down, and it holds down)

The inertia switch is the the black thing with the red top next to that ball of wiring under my kick panel.

The inertia switch cuts power to the fuel pump in case you are ever in an accident. This way your not pumping fuel all over the place. These things do go bad from time to time.

I think previous to 1991 the inertia switch is located to the left of the brake pedal on the driver's side.

I know most of the experienced guys know where this is at, but some of the less experienced guys, and the new people ask about it quite often, figured i would post it.

On that style of IFS (Inertia Fuel Shutoff), the button is always red. The older, larger style has an exposed white "T" button.

Thanks Rob. Got a buddy coming tomorrow to jump the battery, if that doesn't work, we'll swap the battery and see if that works, and if that fails, I'll just suck it up and tow it to Freddie Z's. Freddie Z being the crazy mechanic in North Little Rock that can fix damn near anything. Speaking of NLR, lightnin, if you ever screw your Bronco over real bad and can't fix it, I gurantee Freddie can.
Cool. I may have to check that out if I have a problem. Of course I have to get my bronco back on its wheels and moving again. lol. One of these days.
Good to know, thanks :thumbup
To add some more info, if you need to cut off your fuel supply you can disengage the IFS switch by simply and very gently tapping the switch w/a hammer. Again, do it lightly and your red buttom will pop right up. This will stop your gas from getting to the engine. PS, don't forget to push the red button after you're done doing whatever it is you needed to shut off the fuel supply for.
not all are located there... the 90 of mine has it behind the brake pedal

I think that is why they put the slot under the button is so your can pry it or pop it up with a small screwdriver or at least that what the haynes manual says for turning it off when changing a fuel filter

Right - don't beat on the IFS. That's why the slot is there.
