I know it has been beat to death but in reading several searches I am getting ready to install some. My question is that I have read in one of the more recent threads on this subject that a good spot on a '92-'96(crumple zone frame) is on the inside of the frame rail(horn) where the bumper mount is. I am taking measurements before cutting bumper and it looks like i will only have about an 1/8" of steel between the front bolt and the end of the horn. Will this be enough to hold tight or should I grind down some of the back side of the hook to allow for more room on the front.

Bring it down to my place and we will look at it and see what we can do. Those hooks should do just fine. What do you have to pull from in the rear??

I used a set of tow hooks off a 2004+ F150 and mounted it in the crumple zone. Probably not ideal but I didn't have to cut the bumper and I've pulled from it and it is solid.

I wouldn't try yanking on it in frame deep mud but it serves my purposes.

Those should work out fine. They are simillar to what I have.

If they have the retainer clips (Of which I strongly suggest having) make sure you tweak the clips back a bit so there is less tention on the end of the hook. That way you won't have to struggle to get a strap on there.

I am going to just cut a slot out of the bumper where the horns are. I measured and it only works out that the front bolt will only have maybe an 1/8 to 3/16" to the opening of the frame rail. I will try and get it all done before I come down saturday but may get a tack weld on it at your place if there is time.:thumbup. I am going to use my receiver for the rear. i have a large shackle I am going to put the ball through to attach to. i can't afford the $45 for a receiver hook. I am going to have to run up to TSC sat morn. What time do they open on saturday?

Froggman: That is exactly what I am doing just w/o taking the bumper off. Just cut a BIG enough hole in the bumper. It is already beat up pretty bad so it is going away eventually so I don't give a hoot.:toothless

Got them installed. Did not remove the bumper. The cuts are ok. One got off a little with the grinder....Oh well. I am happy and am sure they will hold. I will try and get some pics loaded in the next couple of days.

Well I got to use the hooks today.Local mud bog opened up(see Dixie chapter) and went and played with the new lift. As far as the bumper cut being a little off that is going to be fixed in the next day or so cause I am going to open them up tall cause I had a little trouble getting someone elses rope in the hook(front end sunk to the frame) so I do not have a problem cutting another 1/2-3/4". Other than that the hooks held up to a K5 w/ 44's and he snatched a couple of good times and then the front end loader came along and pulled me and a F-100 out(I was trying to pull him out). Other than that stuck I didn't so much as start to get stuck. The truck performed great!!!!
