When I crank my 78 it acts like it is flooded or the battery is dying. But I wasnt touching the pedal. I floor it and crank at the same time and it starts fine. Is the carb not getting gas or are the plugs getting fouled or the fuel pump?:shrug Personally I dont think its the pump at all because the pump was put on around the end of october. After it cranks it runs fine.

I think it's just the normal start-up for all Fords before EFI. You have to work the gas pedal and get the fuel system primed before it starts with a manual fuel pump. A worn carb will make this harder, but only EFI will start it right when you turn the key on.

If you're choke is sticking, you can lube the mounting points with WD-40. It would make it harder to start if it's not working properly, but it's fairly easy to see with the air cleaner cover removed. Other internal problems such as a worn accelerator rod or sticking float can cause problems, too.
