It appears that the bolt shown doesn't have ahead. It's just the threated bolt shaft and the nut. Is this a ford thing, or has somebody hacked up my truck?


This is the drivers side of the cross member btw.

I'll give you a gigantic response:

Where the heck are your tranny crossmember bolts? You're missing several I believe. There is a bracket behind two of those, and then it looks like the frame may be short one as well.

I've removed the two bolts from that side, and the three bolts from the other, and the tcase cover plate. I stopped here because I couldn't get the nut off the bolt. The other two bolts have 15mm heads, and 18mm nuts. This one appears to have no head. I haven't removed the two top bolts to the side plate for the cross member yet. Do I need to remove the two top bolts before I can remove this one? I don't understand why this bolt doesn't have a head on it. Anybody else got anything?
