needed some work lights for my trailer. am getting sick of loading up 4 wheeling in the dark with no lights other than the truck/trailer running lights. figured i would mount the bar on the neck for good visability for the lights to shine down on the trailer deck. also the turn/tail lights would be easily seen by the morons who INSIST on driving nex tto me and holding there when i want to change lanes, but they cant see the rear truck lights, or the rear trailer lights since it is so long.
als othe rotoators would be handy for those 1 am u turns with this combo when we are lost on 2 lane back roads, and for picking up my buddies 6.5L chevy when it breaks all th etime on the side of thehighway.
picked up an code 3 mx7000 pretty cehap on ebay. i want a bar with rotoators, work lights, and turn/tail/stop lights for the neck of my long gooseneck trailer. i mainly wanted to add turn signals, and work lights to it, but for the price it was right. only problem is, tow style bars are hard to find used, all you see is police bars, so that what i purchased and did some major reworking on last night.
bar had 4 rearword facing flashing amber lights, 2 alley lights, 2 side to side sweeper lights, 4 rotators, 2 fornt take downs, and two front flashing lights.
i took the bar, and first flipped it aorund backwords, so the takedowns became work lights.
of course i have had the hting in my posseision less than a day before i complelty dismantled it.
took the side to side sweep lights out and pitched them, made for more space. i then removed the alley lights, and respositioned them on the rear most corners, so now the bar has 4 rear facing work lights.
next i took the 2 flashers now pointing backwords, moved them outboard some, and gutted the socket. went to autozone and purchaed 2 4.99 tail lights and stripped the circuit board with the 1157 bulb socket out of them and welded it in place to the back of the reflector. bingo, had turn tai land stop lights now. ran some wires and ran them out a second grommet to wire directly into the trailer harness for those.

i am gonna wire the STT lgihts directly to the trailer, and run a 4 prong round trialer connector to my ford next to the primary trailer wiring. ran 2 ground wires, goign to ground it to the trailer and am going to ground it through the 4 pin connector to the truck also, as its using the trucks battery supply. firgued if i only grounded it to the traile ri could burn out my ground wire on my regular traile rplug leaving everything high and dead then.

STT socket wired into rear facing flasher, and the 2 worklights per side, the outer one was an alley light repositioned.

these got removed for now

bar mostly put back toghther, the middle is open, so leaves me options to add more rear or front facing flashers, or work lights, btu i figure with 4 facing rear i should be okay

all done ready to be mounted later today

Give it some power and show us what it can do. Looks sweet so far
Seems like a good idea to me. It looks similar to what I used when I ran a towtruck.
You can never have too much light at night.:twotu:

I started a similar project years ago but never got around to finishing it. Mine was with an ex-police Aerodynic that I bought cheap and got clear lenses for.

I took out all the rotators and converted all the H1 bulbs to 130 watts versions. There will be four forward facing 130 watt lights, two rear facing 130 watt lights, two 55 watt forward facing flood lights, two 55 watt rear facing flood lights, and one of each 55 watt side flood lights.

well mounted it on the trailer, and wired in the STT today. gonna wait till next week to wire up my extra stuff and wire the truck with the switch panel, as i have a grain truck torn apart taking up the shop space today and i just want to back the whole thing into the heated shop.

acually not......
all 4 rotators only pull 10amps, and each pair of work lights only pull 5 amps. tested it this morning iwth my amp clamp on a battery when i was test wiring.

its a diesel, so its got 130 amp, so it will be fine.

ya, the workshop is VERY nice. the heaters make it perfect!!
not to mention the fact i have my f350 long bed in there, my 25 gooseneck trailer, the zuki on it, a JD4440 loader tractor, the bender area, myu jeep frame with the body tub laying behind it, and still can fit another truck inside right now.

Yeah. Rub salt in the wound won't ya. I wanted to apply the second coat of Rust Bullet today but it's f'n 41* out and the rig don't fit in the garage. Oh well. At least I got the top back on it.
Nice work, great craftmanship and creative....but I believe in simple....look at my Stoopidmotors page...I took two tractor floodlights, mounted to rear cap of the BKO...more light that I will ever need, and real simple...just one wire through a relay.....just my .02
But BurnedB works a farm. What that means is when there's work he works his ass off. When theres not he has alot of time to dream up this kind of stuff. :toothless
