I have been going back and forth about painting my top, I considered bedliner, then i decided to just paint it back original, but after really looking over the top, and noticing i had several areas where the gelcoat was basically gone, I think it would be easiest to spray it with bedliner, but I want it tinted to match (as close as possible).

My question, has anyone purchased any of these products (monstaliner, TCP, Raptor, etc) in a tan that is close to the original Ford 8Q light desert tan? Monstaliner offers a chip chart for around 11 bucks i can order, but nobody else ive found so far offers that, but pictures ive seen i think everyone has a close option, just seeing if any of the members out there have used one.

Thanks

I have the raptor liner on my tailgate and has held up very well, havent had a issue at all, texture is more aggressive than the top though but it all comes down to the prep and the person spraying it. I would contact those companies and see which would best be suited for fiberglass.

Thanks, but the durability is not really a question, that always comes down to prep and application, I’m looking for any details on color. Want to see if anyone has found a good match for the Light Desert Tan .

If you go online you can request the info on Monstaliner and they send for free. After you get the info you can request the chips and there is no charge.

That is strange, I went on in June and asked for pricing and info about their products and the sent me a magnet and a price sheet. I picked out 4 color chips and they sent them to me with in 2 weeks and no charge.

Yeah I didn’t talk to anyone, it’s just on their site if you navigate around, but I’ll try asking a representative, I bet they’ll send me something.

The folks at TCP were like “no we don’t do that, we have Pictures on the website…” which anybody that’s ever bought paint from a picture, especially on the internet knows those pictures aren’t usually accurate.

If you think every product out there is just as durable as one another you must be crazy, prep and proper application of a product has nothing to do with the durability of the product itself, the only thing that prep and application affects is how well the product adheres to the surface and finish. You can take cheap single stage paint and a good quality base coat/clear coat and both prepped and applied the same its no comparison which will last longer, your best bet would be to find a product that can be top coated if your looking for a dead on match, these bed liners wont ever 100% match any color when the tint is mixed into the product itself, you might get close but the amount of texture alone can affect the color when tinting bed liner. You also have to consider that some bed liners spray on thin and some spray on thick.

I did the monstaliner in my cargo area (so far) and it's held up great. It's a roll on application (altho you can spray it if you want) but it looks great with using the rollers they provide in the kit. 1 gallon should do a full 2 coats on the outside of the topper and leaves a nice even texture (unlike some of the other liners that uses chopped rubber bits to make their texture).
They do send free color chips and the color I ordered (purple people eater) matched the chip spot on after it completely dried.

Here's the link to their color page. There's a link at the bottom of the page to order your color chips.

My point didn't come across in my reply, the reason i said durability wasn't an issue is because i know a good product from a crappy one. I agree with everything you said. I wouldnt go through all the trouble i am on this bronco and put junk on it. This ain't my first rodeo with bed liners, just my first one putting it on something besides a bed or floor pan, and my first one that is colored.
I don't expect 100% spot on match, that rarely happens, that's why body shops have to blend out repairs so you can't see that the paint don't match perfectly. Line-X can actually mix it to whatever factory color you want, but this is expensive. I just want to know if there is a pre mixed product out there that matches pretty close. I thought id post a question and maybe get lucky that someone has done this exact thing and save me some time waiting on chip samples.

So i found the link for free Monstaliner chip samples...i guess what i was looking at was a complete chip sample chart, they charge 11 bucks for that. That is the difference in looking at this stuff on my phone vs computer. I tend to notice things better on my 34" widescreen rather than my 6" phone screen.

Their paint names kill me, i requested:
Yank My Doodle
Pass the Bubbly
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot
Killer Beej (yeah, the J is supposed to be there)

Their color names are crazy...I ordered the killer beej too when I was looking at colors and I said the same thing when I asked y'all's opinions on them 😂 I'm pretty sure you can custom tint monstaliner as well if you have a source code for the original tint, but don't quote me on that...
I don't think you'll be waiting too long to get your color chips. I think I got them within 4 days of ordering them. The paint came quickly too. They're on the ball there...I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Depending on store, some paint stores will tint that stuff for you. I would if someone brought it in. Id just charge them for the colorant. Of course I would need the correct formula in my colorant system, or color chip to match it.

None of the box stores will do this for you. You would have to find an actual independent paint store, likely not even Sherwin would do it.

We got 3 local auto body supply shops here I’ve used, and would imagine they can help me but if someone makes one that is 95% close “out of the can” it would probably be cheaper.
