Hey everyone, i have a loose drivers seat arm rest on my 96 that i want to tighten up before it comes off. I did a search but only found how to take it off, or repair broken brackets.

I'm sure the bracket is not broken. It just has some side to side movement that it never had before. Can this just be tightened? or is it getting worn out?

I know i should have just taken it apart before i even asked but i wanted to get some input before i ever started.

The armrest pivots on a large shoulder bolt. If it is already tight, then surely you have a broken bracket. You can weld it ,but it probably won't last. The best thing to do is to make a new bracket out of steel.

The the guy above said, if you can't tighten it, you'll need a new one. Unzip the cover and see if you can tighten it up at all. If not, start looking for another.

Does the shoulder bolt or hole in the bracket ever wear out, or is it always an issue with bracket breaking or bolt coming loose?

Arm Rest Repair; "...To fix a set of chairs with a broken armrest, I made this repair plate. The factory plate almost looks intentionally weakened, and they usually last more than a decade before breaking. Mine should last more than twice that long. If you need one, e-mail me through my profile here or on almost any BBS forum that deals with Ford trucks or Crown Vics..."
