I have an 85 FSB with power windows & door locks

I have an 82 FSB with manual windows & door locks

I am contemplating changing them in the 82 so it has power windows and locks this is not too difficult to perform the only issue is that my door panels in my 82 are for manual and I just finished doing them up with a new color, the 85's door panels are falling apart badly and would need to be replaced to perform the swap out.

I wanted to get your guys ideas before I journey into this nightmare!

I am trying not to spend too much money but I might want to do a remote start in the future with keyless entry and this might be the cheapest way to go in the future as I wont have to buy an aftermarket system for the power locks and windows when I can have a factory one.

I dont mind the paint difference in the door color because the truck is going in soon to get all the dents fixed and it will be getting painted again due to previous owner shooting over the origional paint and the paint he used was really cheap ad is peeling off the truck!

by the way if I do this I would be pulling the doors and swapping them and then locating the wiring harness and wiring that into the 82

Or should I say no and do this?

If your rig rarely sees any off road duty, I'd say go with the power windows and lock. I'm actually going to swap mine out for manual for simplicity sake, but there is definitely something to be said for the convenience of power.

I gotta tell you, on something that old, manual stuff is a blessing where auto is a curse. Think of how many problems people have with the rear window that is mandatorily automatic. Stick with manual. However, the choice will probably be made by which interior door panels you want to use. I think the manual and automatic have a different hole in them for the buttons. So if they are different colors or styles, you have to go with the color you want and change the windows accordingly.

umm isnt it illegal to take the doors off and drive around?
No more or less illegal than 6" lifts, aftermarket lights, wide tires, modified exhausts, and modified engines. It does get alot of attention from the fuzz to have doors off on anthing besides a SWB jeep or FJ40. Lack of functional side view mirrors is what they will often ticket you for.
As far as the power or manual doors...that is really up to which you prefer. I personally dont have a preference between the two except when it comes to resale time.
