i have a freshly rebuilt 351 that i would like to put in my truck in the near future. problem is, first thing is first and i need to put in a new trans first. and im going to upgrade to the ZF so its going to be a little more costly. anyhow, how long can a motor sit without being ran? what steps should i take to preserve it? and when i say near future, i mean 6 months or so. thanks guys

6 months isn't that long to let it sit, but there's a few things I'd do:
-squirt some oil in each cylinder through the spark plug hole.
-rotate the crank a copule of times to spread the oil in the bores
-put the plugs back in
-tape up every opening (intake & exaust ports/ dist. hole/ upper & lower Rad hose holes... etc.

Before firing it up for the first time all I'd do would be to prime the oil pump with an old dist. w/o the cam gear or just the shaft itself and let er rip!

well i may have been a little generous about the 6 months. a year is more reasistic if i dont use the stock heads and intake. but that does help. thanks

so thats it just oil it up and bag it up?, btw the intakes are off and so is one head.
