So, has anyone ever built a center console with multiple lighters in it? I have a Chebby with a cig lighter and two auxiliaries for extra devices. I usually run a radar detector and a GPS.

I'm putting together plans to build a center console, and was hoping to put in two of these. Has anyone done this? and if so, how did you wire it? series, or seperate fuses? or something entirely else?

Thanks guys.

I went to autozone and bought one of those three plug spliters that just plugs into your reg cig lighter. Then I cut off the cig plug, and wired it to a relay in the eng. compartment. Instant four plugs. Pretty simple, but if you get the polarity backwars it doesn't do anything. I got lucky in my mustang and got it right the first time, had to switch the wires when I did it in my Honda. I can take some pics tomorrow if you wish.

I was just thinking about it because I couldn't get a multi-plug outlet into the lighter easily, and I also have a spare lighter from a 1990 that I have for parts.

I certainly need two, though 4 might be more than I really want.

If I ever need to plug that much stuff in I think I'd want to put a separate battery and inverter in the cargo area (or something).

If you have power seats (lumbar) you can tap into that 12V power and get one of those three outlet jobbers that plug into your cigarette lighter, cut off the lighter adapter and wire it into the 12V under the seat and there you go.
