boy is this a heated conversation..... i've jsut put a Borla mufler
on mine, 3" in and dual 2 1/2" outlet, ran some cheap pipes
over the diffand out by the tank. has a good sound at idle, not
too loud and not too soft. but when i'm on the gas it can be heard
I asked my neighbor after i did it and they were not offended
actually got more compliments. ill check the part number, i got it for about $70 mail order, i'l get that and post it too.

keep on banging heads.:boxing

If we killed all morons, would that be considered genocide?

Listen guys, I think where this thread really went downhill is when the moron made the comment "Did you lose sleep over your nasty emissions when you were 18?"

No, we didnt...But we should have. Thats why Cali's emissions are so heavily regulated, because a million dickwads like you cut their cats off, and ran their trucks around. You act like you have said nothing wrong, but infact, you saying that is what pissed everyone off.

I dont personally have a problem with someone who has a loud truck, but I do have a problem with someone who doesnt give a shit about emissions.

If you want to get your shit loud, look on google for tips. Don't bother coming around here if your not going to respect others and the enviornment. Oh, and before you go and make a post asking a question that a ton of others have already asked, USE THE SEARCH BUTTON AND SMASH YOUR HEAD ON THE KEYBOARD UNTIL THE WORD EXHAUST COMES OUT ON THE SCREEN.

And kenny, way to fuel the fire, all you've done so far is contributed stupidity to this thread. No one had a problem with him putting exhaust stuff on his truck. Some people don't like them, but thats their problem.

that is what i was thinking, look at the dates,

i know my exaust has a nice quiet rumble at idle but can get a real nice sound when you lay on your gas and that is with 40 series. So hell, you can have a nice sounding exhaust with out being a dick to the people around you and the environment

Wel well well.....let me shed some light on the subject. The entire emissions bullshiez is just that BS. Your air isn't foggy because people dont have cats on....catalytic converters were and always will be a big scam. the is not some "conpiracy theory" it's fact well supported by the upper tiers of the automotive industry themselves. Your air is cleaner today than it ws twenty years ago and it has absolutely NOTHING to do with these stupid frigin cats. If you live in KALIFORNIA or any other obviously socialist/communist stae, you need to get your ass out to the polls and vote for those who put decisions back in your hands. If you like paying the salary of people at greenpeace and other tree hugger organizations....keep on believing in the EPA, or at least the air quality end of the EPA. Dont misunderstand me, i like to tread lightly and leave things in better repair than i found them, and i give alot of money to environmental research and to wildlife management every year. I'm an outdorsman, and i'd hate to have my land and my woods and my water polluted, but at the same time, your catalytic converters aren't keeping ANY of that from getting dirty. Do some research on the catalytic converter and see just what you find.

BTW: I run no cats with a single 50 series delta flow flowmaster, and my truck does not sound loud or strong. When i run it on the emmissions scope for a five gas test, i burn WAY cleaner than most new cars with cats and smog pumps and all that crap. My unburned fuels is sooo low that the scope will sometimes give me a dead 0.

hell cut it all off run open headers ....you want loud ...there ya go ...LMAO
i side with both partys on this ....its tuff to get that bad arse sound and still be kind to the enviroment...change out your stock headers go with shortys or something with less restriction...but try to do it right...worst case ...install a diverter ..so when you want it to be loud you open it up ..then when you want to be nice you can close them off and run like normal....hey guys at least he aint trying to be like some and run no cats no exhaust just good ole cherry bombs ..lol...good luck matt...JOE2

Well I've had a two chamber (think they are called the 40 series now) on my truck for about 4 years now and I have always gotten complements on it, even from guys with gibsons. I guess the key here is having the exhaust a true 3" from the main cat to the tailpipe. No need to cut off the cats, just do it right the first time.

I also had a flowmaster on my bronco and i thought it sounded wimpy, I get jealous of those chevy trucks and how deep and loud they sound. I have gibson headers and the stock cat converters, but i cut off my muffler, it sounds good , but i still want louder and deeper :thumbup so first try taking off your muffler and leave the cats on, and see how you like. It won't be as loud as you think, but that way you'll be louder and legal

Flowmaster does not equal "loud"... The one on my truck is just loud enough to give it some growl, but not as loud as all of the other mall crawlers I see around here with 33s on them...

I actually like it the way it is because it is easier to sneak around if need be... Hard to be subtle with flames and thunder belching out the back of your ride.

But that is just me...

About adding emissions stuff to non-emissions vehicles... WHAT? Cars and trucks that were built pre '75 were not designed to run with all that crap attached to it!

loud isn't all that great, if thats what you want, go for it, but often times the loudest isn't the best performing. A great performing exhaust sounds best to me.

alot will determine the final sound--pipe size, how long the pipe is after the muffler, the tip sizs, and the motor has alot to do with it too. what compression, cam, headers or manifolds, is there an "H" pipe. my 60 truck has baby flows 2 chambers and it dumps out under the drivers side door. at idle almost can not hear it sounds stock stand on it it gets alittle louder but not bad. my 75 454 has doug thourly tri-y headers 11-1 compression 2 1/2 pipe to the baby flows and pipe to the rear bumper and 4 " x 12" tips and it idling will set off the car alarm nex door. rev it up and the alarms in the town home across the street go off. i driven it next to cops and get pulled over and it is just at the legal limit (but still had 3 tickets due to noise). the 60 i never been stopped. flow master like long pipes and compression and big tip on the end. i think on the bronco i going with a set of inside the pipe discs 3 disc system and pipe out the stock location. http://www.carchemistry.com/

i have an original 40 series flow in place of my stock muffler and it is dumped under the truck. It is very gay sounding not loud at all. is it because i have the stock cats or is it because oof my small stock pipe diameter? I want it to be loud as shit. Screw smog here in cali i got the hook up!
Back to your question

The best muffler in the world may not sound right after your 15 year old half clogged cats. Squatty's right about headers, but you can also uncork the plug in your system by going to a larger cat and still be responsible about the environment, heck your mileage will go up too.

Mine rumbles semi-quietly, but so deeply, with just a single universal Walker truck muffler that nobody believes me that its a 302. It's also acceptably quiet so you can sneak home late, but get on it and it's got the kind of acceptance amongst bigger trucks you're seeking.

IMO the restriction in EFI'd Broncos is not cat back it's cat forward. Check out what can be done, and still stay legal and clean, here;

Is it or anything like it legal in California ? I don't know I'm just a Canuck looking for a beaver to knaw on.

"You missed my point, Kenny. You read badass's reply about his being loud, and assumed that's what I was talking about also. Not even close. bumpinbronc guy here, doesn't seem to care about doing his part, in a very strict emission-controlled state, to keep the air clean, thus ensuring the regulations will get even tighter over the coming years"

I have headers. 3inch exhaust flowmaster and my truck runs cleaner then most of the newer cars and cleaner then the old ladies driving those useless Deisel mercedes..... Such a myth that these FSB's hurt the air that much.. On all the tests that they give in Cali. I was WAY above average. The only test that I was low on, wasnt even a concern with the air.. . Something to do with the idling and my overstock cam fighting with my computer.

But, I agree that the morons who run Cali will make it even harder to smog a vehicle.. I didn't get my exhaust for loudness, though , it is loud. And I am not about to questions one's intelligence if that is what they want... I got my exhaust so my engine could breathe. Get a little better gas mileage in the process..
