I have a 90 FSB, 351 automatic. In between the oil pan and the transmission fluid pan there is a component, for which I don't know the name, with a hole aboutt he size of a silver dollar. What is it and is it supposed to be open or plugged? Mine is open.

Its a dust shield and its suppose to be thereit to let water drain out,if you do alot of muddin I recomend finding a rubber plug of that size .

I find a small amount of tranny fluid in there if I put my finger in there....normal?

If it's just a small amount of trans fluid then don't worry abut it too much. If it turns into a lot of fluid or you're getting big stains under the truck then it's a problem.

Got to go put back together my dash now after the wire surgery and heater core replacement. Interior looks like somebody tried to steal everything!
