I am not trying to start a debate on wide vs narrow but I need some info. I have an inside track on some 34X10.5's Supper Swamper TSL Radials on my F-250. I am just wondering if narrow tires have any different manners on the road especially on a heavy truck I need to be aware of.
I prefer a wider tire but that was always for looks more than purpose. or with a big heavy truck should I stay with a wide tire.
Trying to find out a narrow tire makes a difference in everyday use.

Personally, I would prefer to have a large diameter with a narrow width. Two reasons, first off, It allows you to get to the hard pack quicker and second and most important, it takes less horse power to turn a narrow tire packed in mud then it does a wide tire. The problem is, because of consumer demand,it is harder to find a narrow tire compared to a wide one, at least that was the case for me.

I live in Texas so snow would happen about 1 time per year. It is a hunting truck so some of the time it will be going down the road pulling a duck boat and some of the time it will be on the lease going down trails and I hope to offroad a little so 60/40 Steet to offroad

Narrower tires have slightly different road manners than equivalent height wide tires. They tend to have a little more wander in them.

Now mind you, it's probably not enough to notice on a bronco, but if you were putting them on something like a navigator or something else that's real smooth/quiet/stable you probably would be able to notice it.

I just looked on Interco's site and I didn't see the 34x10.50 in either Super Swamper or TSL Radial. The TSL had a 33x10.50 though.. Just kinda curious, I like the tall skinny tires myself.

Its probably the LTB which looks just like a TSL and I've owned LTBs in that size

I dont really have skinny, but i do have 12.50s on an 8 inch wheel which makes them semi skinny. They do wander quite a bit, and like to follow the grooves in the road.

i do think fatter tires follow the road worse though.. IMO, they find the "worn down part", you know, the part the semis have created, and then the fatter tire track to it.. just my opinion.

I drive around on my 34X19.5X16 LTB's - they are a bias ply tire made of NYLON, not rubber. They are loud, wear faster then any appropriate truck tire, and even on a 16" rim they will allow your truck to drift while driving at speeds. It is kinda scary when you are doing 80MPH and your truck gets yanked into the grooves in the pavement - feels like your steering is going out...

Buy a wider tire - you will probably be fine with a MFG A/T, or check out Interco's M16 tire, probably what you are looking for.


This is a 34X10.5X16 next to a 32X11.5X15 BFG A/T

The wander you're talking about is inherent to bias ply tires, regardless of width or height (but it does get worse the taller the sidewall).

I had a car with 5.6x15 bias ply tires, and it would merge half a lane with no driver input.

I originally said "no" because I thought they were LTB's which I have had and didn't like but he assured me they were TSL Radials. Now there is a concern because I can't find out what ply they are if they are a 6 then they won't work because my truck is a 3/4 ton requiring AT LEAST an 8 ply. we will see

Hey kyle do you have a picture from the side hard to tell how much taller the 34 is. I have looked at a 34 only 33 and 35's. Thank you for posting up what you did.

how is 60/40 never seeing mud, when it rains my deer lease floods like a mother and the river bottoms we hunt with homemade boat launches get pretty nasty, my issue is just that an average drive to one of these places is about an hour, or 2.

I just went from 38/12.5 on 7.5" rims to same tire on a 10" rim. It widened
the tire track out and made the truck handle better on the road and have less
body roll. My 2cent

You sure it's not just nylon cords? The tire should still be made of rubber...

I've been running a 255/85/16 (33x9.50) on my Duramax and love them. Yeah they wander a little bit, but nothing bad, and only if you are really working it around corners. They are much quieter than a 285/75/16 and will wear much better on a stock 16x7 rim. I wouldn't go any other way than tall and skinny.
