hey. my abs lights has been on for a while and i pulled some codes from it. but first, the light came on a while ago and my abs pump was making a constant wining noise, even with the truck off, so i unplugged it for a while and eventually replaced the abs controller, which stopped the wining noise. the abs light was off for two days before it came on again. the pump doesnt make the wining noise it was making before, but i got the following codes when i scanned it:

11 - ecu failure, replace ecu
17 - reference voltage
25 - front right valve
41 - front right sensor
42 - front left sensor
63 - pump motor

so from here im not sure what to do.

Not sure what abs system is on the broncos but I know in my 94 mustang I had the light going off about power lose and a few other codes cause i was doing some work to it and needed to disconnect a few connectors and reonnect power at a few times with the connectors off. If you changed the module you may wnat to just clear the codes from it first and see if the smae codes come up or if they stay cleared. Just cause u fix a code doesnt mean it will clear it self by it self. I know on the 94 mustangs there was a connector on the glove box side that you would have to ground out for a certain amount of time than unground it to clear all the codes. Not sure for hte broncos. Oh and hte 94 mustangs still had hte obd I still in them and later in 95 or 96 they went to the obd II

95 is obd 1. I used the paper clip method to get the codes
You may want to check the source of your code definitions man. 11 means an all clear signal not replace CPU. You usin chevy codes???

As for ABS I don't think that you use the same connector to read ABS codes as you do engine codes.

I think you're talking about the check engine codes, where 11 would mean a pass. According to the 2 digit abs codes I used it means replace ecu

Maybe I'm missing something here. Are you talking about your ABS (Antilock Brake System?)

If you are then I don't know why you would get a replace ecu.

Perhaps you can tell us how you check your ABS codes. Dude. You're confusing the hell out of me.

as for getting the abs codes, i used the info at http://www.fordfuelinjection.com/?p=13. as for checking the abs codes to their definitions, i used http://www.autozone.com/autozone/repairinfo/repairguide/repaiguideOverlay.jsp?src=http://repairguide.autozone.com/znetrgs/repair_guide_content/en_us/images/0900c152/80/26/33/73/medium/0900c15280263373.&imageType=gif&imageName=Fig. 1: 4-wheel ABS trouble code index- 1993-96 Bronco models

yeah also i will clear the abs codes tomorrow, since any abs code throwing the light on will shut down the abs system, and it may have an old code from before i replaced the abs controller stored still, but i dont really know so ill find out

My bad. I didn't realize that 93 - 96 was different than pulling codes for the 89. We just have to count the flashes 1 - 16. Usually it's the sensor anyway.

If your useing this connection

that test is your ENGINE self test not ABS brake system test

use these pages to match the codes you got and they will make allot more sence

11 X X X System pass!
17 X RPM below Self-Test limit with Idle Air Control off.
25 X Knock not sensed during dynamic test.
41 X HEGO sensor circuit indicates system lean (right side).
X No HEGO switching detected always lean (right side).
42 X HEGO sensor circuit indicates system rich (right side).
X No HEGO switching detected always rich (right side).

okay, this morning i cleared the codes, drove it around a little, and the light came on right on schedule and i scanned it again and it has the same codes.

when i replaced the abs controller before i just used one out of a cash-for-clunkers bronco that looked like it was in good shape but maybe had a bad abs controller too? the wining noise stopped when i replaced it though so i figured it was good, but i still get code 11 (replace ecu). this is referring to the abs controller right?

yo
YES it is refer. to da 4WABS Control Module
4WABS 11 Possible Source(s):
Anti-lock brake electronic control module failure.
Action(s) to take:
REPLACE anti-lock brake electronic control module.

I had the same Code in my 96; went thru local dealership for a new Controller; they found ONLY one new unit at a dealership out West; got it in and found that it was a used unit; someone along da food chain swiped the new unit and stuck their burnt-out one in the box.

I went thru 2 Yard controllers, both were bad so I jumpered out the ABS Sensor (on the 8.8) at the controller's connector so the PSOM, E4OD, EEC would all work and not give me whip-lash

Also, suggest you buy a Ford Bronco Electrical and Vacuum Troubleshooting Manual (EVTM), Powertrain Controls and Emission Diagnosis Manual (PCED), Service Manual CD from Steve83 or E Bay; the pin-point tests are involved.. it includes bad connections at the controller; Terminal backout in anti-lock brake electronic control module connector etc.
The CD is da Best under $20.00 thing you'll ever buy to repair the Bronco
Mine is at home otherwise I'd look uo Code 11

Do you have this info by Steve83? such as for example;
17 Reference Voltage/Intermittent Valve Fault
Possible Source(s):
 30 amp fuse open.
Intermittent connections to battery, main relay or ground.
Main relay coil or contacts open.
Open or short to ground in Circuit 532 (O/Y).
Open or short to ground in Circuit 599 (PK/LG).
Open or short to ground in Circuit 601 (LG/PK).
Short to ground through anti-lock hydraulic control unit.
 Intermittent valve failures.
 High resistance valves

"Ford Bronco Electrical and Vacuum Troubleshooting Manual"
Just now copied your phrase and pasted it into www.Amazon.com,
saw one for a '91 on the list and bought it, $10 plus shipping. :)
Thanks! :)

Already have all this stuff...
4 inch thick- "Engine/Emissions-Diagnosis, '91 Car/Truck Shop Manual"
'91 light truck wiring diagrams
'91 Ford Truck Shop Manual

Also have a '93 Mustang A9L EEC that I plan to use.
Any suggestions on anything else I should to get? :)

okay i checked the grounds and fuse (code 17) and it all looks good to me, but i have a question about 11 (replace ecu). is this referring to the abs controller or ecc? i assumed the ecc would be a check engine light and the abs controller would be the abs light, but i just put another one in and it still gives me that code.
