The NP205 must have it's own support on the frame, aside from the transmission crossmember. Otherwise, it will snap your transmission case. My BW4407 broke the c6 in my 96, and its 50 pounds lighter than the NP205.
The shifter will not line up with the transfer case shifter in your floor pan. Prior to 87, the shifter came out through the transmission tunnel cover, either left or right of any manual transmission shifter that may be there.
The NP205 is nearly indestructible, but only has a low range of 1.96:1. Compare that to the 2.6 or 2.7 of the later chain drive cases, and it is fairly under geared. You can do a doubler np203 range box for a lower range.
You could technically use just the np205 behind your current configuration, or use your current transfer case behind the 460/c6. All ford transfer cases from 96 and back interchange, in terms of mounting to the transmission.
