I currently have a stock 302 5.0l. I am looking for more bottom end power but would also like top get some horsepower. I have been thinking of either beefing up the 302 or swapping for a 351. Suggestions...

4.56 or 4.88 gears would make it feel stronger.

Not only feel stronger, it would be a lot stronger.
If you're running 35's I would go with 4.88's or 5.13's

I second this. 5.13's would make the 302 feel more adequate.

Cummins...... low end straight from hell, then run 3.54's and get 20+ mpg to boot. JS.

I have an 88' slightly built 5.0ltr with an aod trans and 4.88 gears on 36.5" swampers and beadlocks. my bronco does just fine, can drive 80mph on the frwy no problem. Just depends on how you build it.

If you want your 302 to develop more torque, you need low valve lift airflow...
this means limited sized ports....

AFR185 heads will make your 302 a torque monster. You don't need to spool it up too much to get it going either. Couple this with a reworked stock intake
and a low-end torque cam and you're layin rubber.

Gearing helps too.
