I'm replacing cat converter it has an L shape hook on it which way dose it go front or back.

That is the air inject nipple. It faces the engine.

Like Seabronc says it usually faces the engine, but....

The directional flow arrow on the main body is what counts. You need to make sure the cat is lined up to the flow arrow points to the back, whichever way the hook points.

Don't think I've ever seen one that had that nipple in any other direction but pointing at the engine, but yah there should be an arrow on the case.
