I just picked up a 92 Bronco, 5.0 with O/D. Question is, when putting it in reverse, it seems to take a second or two, but slams in hard. All forward gears shift fine, normal. The guy I bought it from said he thinks it's a tranny mount or u-joint. What do you think?

could be a U joint or a pinion nut.
Yup. i'm in agreement.

When you put it into reverse does it take a second to get the "clunk". if so thats just how long it takes everything to torque up. in a nice flat parking lot, put your truck in N. start it, then shift it into R with your foot off the break...see if you start moving instead of getting a "clunk". That'll prove you're in R but other stuff is twisting up because its loose (mounts, joints etc)

Thanks, will check it. How do I check the pinion nut?
Climb under the truck with your P brake on and your tranny in nuetral (this is how I found out mine was loose) try to rotate your drive shaft or you can pull straight back on it look for slop in the ujoints if those are bad watch for play in your pinion yoke.
