I've purchased a '96 Bronco that came from the factory with a 5.8L. Before I bought it, that engine had been replaced with a 5.0L.
In trying to get the vehicle to pass Missouri Emissions inspections, I've been chasing error codes throughout the exhaust system.
Replaced the O2 Sensors, the EGR Valve, the EGR Tube, the Vacuum purge valve, the Mass Air Flow Sensor, etc., etc.

One possible explanation that my ODB scanner has suggested is to replace the PCM.

The problem is, I can't seem to find anyone that can provide a "new" PCM for a vehicle that left the factory with a 5.8L and now has a 5.0L.

I'm not a mechanic and am learning as I go.
So, any help, guidance, suggestions, etc. are extremely welcome.

Thanks!

you're going to want to verify that the computer in your bronco is for a 96 / 302. there's a difference between "will it run" and "will it run at 100%".

i believe these are going to be the EEC / PCM codes you'll want to see on yours.

also, it could just be that your computer has failed. you could visually inspect for any burnt capacitors. if you search you'll find a bunch of posts about it. but, it could still look fine and be faulty. you can search hollanderparts.com or car-part.com for one out of a junk yard. or on ebay if you're lucky.

As advised check your PCM..The 5.8 would have used a different one than the 5.0 so if the number on yours don't match up to what's on the list that is likely your problem..
Out of curiosity, did it have those codes from the get go or did the just show up one day?

Thanks dash-cam.
If I'm understanding you, what I need to do is make sure the PCM matches the engine and transmission combination. I can buy any one of the PCMs you list from fs1inc.com for around $250. Does it matter which one I get? If it does, what would determine the particular code I should look for?

jermil01,
I bought the Bronco in '17 and titled and licensed it at my cabin, which has minimal emissions requirements.
Once we sold the cabin, we brought it back into town and when the license renewal came up, I started chasing everything needed to get it to pass inspection.
