So after I found that my valve cover was loose and I lost a little oil, I pulled out my dipstick to check oil level. I cleaned it off, and looked and looked, but I can not find any oil level indicators! I searched, but came up with nothing. My tranny fluid level dipstick has 3 holes in it, but my oil dipstick has nothing. Did the dipsticks somehow get swapped before I bought the truck? How do I know if I'm running low on oil?

Cheapest way IMO is change your oil and scribe a mark on the dipstick with a Dremel or something similar.

does it look like the stick is broken on the end?

have any friends with same motor and stick? you could put them side by side and stamp marks back on.

It's not broken on the end, and all my friends drive imported 1/4 tons banghead), so no chance of borrowing one.

Yeah, I plan on changing the oil today, so I will mark the high-spot with my dremel.

How would I mark it though, engine cold or hot? And I wouldn't exactly be able to get a low-marking. Maybe I'll find a junkyard nearby..

you should just go get a new (replacement) one. be better.
