noise coming from oil pan???

Just installed new timing gears on my I-6 300 83, and can hear a noise that sounds like its coming from the oil pan, not knocking or ticking, constant humb or rubbing noise. First thought was cam gear was rubbing cover so removed and pushed on a little further, saw only slight apperance that it was touching cover, also cleaned oil pan and replaced. Have never heard this veh run before as I just got it any ideas. Noise increase with throttle and doesnt appear to be tranny or clutch related.

Have you ruled out any drive belt,alt,p/s etc. noise? What does the oil pressure read? A 300 has a gear "whine" to it that sounds like a high pitch buzz.(bee sound) that is normal. Is this similar?

I have a question for you. Why the heck would you start replacing parts if you never even heard the thing running??????????????????
waltman, when you get a veh that doesnt start you find out why and replace the things you knw are bad the rotor wasnt turning and the fuel pump wasnt working///Broncfoot, there are no belts on, I took off one at a time to eliminate them as a possiblity, I had heard about the gear whine but wasnt sure, how loud it was, the sound is similar to power steering noise but a lower tone
Put her together,I think you're probably Ok.Just gear noise. If its p/s it'll show up soon enough.Cross that bridge then, its easy.
:stupid
If it runs OK now, just drive it until you can figure out what it is. You have eliminated the possibility of the noise resulting from anything you did, so just go from there.
