kind of menial...but knowledge is power, right?

i realized that one of the tangs was missing on the 1986 motorcraft oil cap that came with the bronco when i bought it...

my cap has a crankcase breather tube that attaches to the air filter cover. the oil cap screws directly to the top of the valve cover (no filler tube).

i figured i could use the elbows and hose that was on the old cap b/c they looked in good condition, so i went and bought a generic stant cap from advance auto parts...

i test fit it, and it worked...so i proceeded to the old cap and went to go pull the 45 degree elbow out of the top, and the dang thing wouldn't budge

so i called advance to see if they carried the elbow, and the guy that answered said he used to own a '85 5.8L and he had to replace his cap...he said to try to pick away the old grommet b/c sometime after years of use they harden to a plastic like substance...so i tried

a few pokes in the hand and 45 minutes later...

i put the new grommet in place in the new cap then slid the newly freed elbow into place in the new cap...and tightened it into place.

then attached the breather hose back in place on the air filter cover
