I imagine they are very close.

I found two other sources calling it Forrest service green.

There are several fire agencies that have or had Broncos here in WA. But if a police agancy had one, it definitely wouldn't have red in the paint scheme, for obvious reasons.

Appears to be DSO 74, which is Seattle, Wa. Paint codes point to red and white as original colors. Perhaps it was a fire chiefs truck if the pillar light is original.
I'm in the Olympia area, that makes sense, except there is ZERO rust except trace surface rust. What do you mean by pillar light? :smokin:

I also just found this thread. My '96 XL ex-Forest Service truck that I have had for about 10 years was repainted by the PO (who I was told bought it at auction). You can definitely see the pale green color in the jambs and engine bay. He told me that it was in service in the Placerville CA area. It's an auto with a 5.8 and manual transfer case. I have some wiring for what I assume was a CB in the interior and then some other random holes in the cap where I guess cargo baskets of some sort were mounted. That's about all of the exciting stuff I know of. I have never looked at my door sticker, though. I will try to get a picture to see what you guys can figure out! Pretty cool!

I have a 96XL that I bought from The Yakima County Sheriffs dept. It still had the inoperative pillar light, 4 plugged holes in the ceiling and some headliner cut away to mount what looks like 2 radios from the roof. I have an axle code of 19....which i haven't seen defined here yet and spring code is J4D which I also haven't seen yet either. Any ideas?? It is the Pacific green paint code which is darker than others with metallic flake. At the front edge of the doors you can see the remnants of the gold and silver sheriffs logo that was removed. It must have been a sticker because the doors are clean with no marks showing there was ever anything there.

Axle 19 is just a 3.55 open carrier iirc. And the j4d springs are normal.

Ok so my truck has a DSO code, which I would have never discovered without this thread. I had always thought my truck could have been a gov't truck, when I bought it it had a fire department plate, it's a red Eddie bauer, (90), had siren and cb and a bunch of other stuff in it. Has some crudely terminated wires at the top of my passenger door. Can anyone decode my DSO code? The 2 digit is 24, which is Jacksonville, makes sense, the truck has a dealer sticker on the tailgate from a dealer in spring hill, I bought the truck in tarpon (like 30 miles from spring hill) the codes above the barcode and dso, are F0046 and T0052. Any additional info is appreciated

Those are not DSO codes. Well the 24 is, but not the others. A true DSO code will be below the barcode thingy. Like the pic Fodder posted above(post #78). His says "83_______5000" indicating it was govt ordered. The 5000 means nothing to us, and is only to tell a technician what the vehicle had special, via a database.

Post up a pic for us to peruse

F0046 is your reserve weight capacity for the front axle in lbs.
T0052 is the total reserve weight capacity for both axles.

46 lbs and 52 lbs respectively.
@fodder 's sticker says F0015 and T0146, meaning he probably had a slightly heavier engine or trans, but had a slightly stiffer spring in the back. This rating is purely for hauling capacity, not towing. It's also not a rule, but more of a guideline.

If you go back an look at the 96 f350 sticker I posted, it has F0685 and T1830. But it has a 9100 GVWR, whereas Broncos are around 6000 usually.

Spring packs, engine, trans, axles, and gear ratios all play a part in determining the GVWR.

T0167, actually.

I'm at a loss for what to make of those numbers, though. 167 lbs of reserve capacity for hauling doesn't make sense. It should be more like 1500 lbs, shouldn't it? (Figuring 6000 lbs capacity and ~4500 vehicle weight.) A shopping cart can haul more than 167 lbs. :)

Yeah, I'm not real sure about that either. My single cab 351 powered f350 surly doesn't weigh 7300 lbs.

And think about it like this: the average adult weighs over 150 pounds. If we stand on the front bumper, it doesn't bottom out. In fact, it barely squats.

I'm also not sure I would want to put 1500 lbs in the back of a bronco. Maybe half that. 1000 lbs of tile squats a half ton pickup pretty good.

For sure. I've spent more than my share of time standing on the front bumper... Thinking in terms of tongue weight, the Bronco has what, 5-6000 lbs towing capacity, or 750-900 lbs downward on the bumper/hitch. That's in line with your 1000 max statement. Certainly well above whatever the "T" number represents.

p.s. The 1500 lb load estimate also matches what I figured when comparing the Bronco and V8 Explorer's ratings.

Has anyone with one of the gov't code vehicles done the PSOM speedo calibration? I adjusted mine yesterday and was surprised to see no code for lockout count (tries remaining). I'm wondering if gov't vehicles got a modified speedo unit with no such limit, figuring they're likely to be in for constant maintenance and servicing.

The DSO code is for Dallas. Vehicle history shows it being in Tucson, AC for its first three years, racking up 50k miles a year. It's hard to tell how secure the cage in the back is.

I saw it last week and wasn't home to watch the live auction to see if it got any bids. It was relisted this week, so obviously it didn't hit reserve. Shocking, with drivetrain parts sitting loose in one of the pictures... Buy It Now is only $550. I've never seen a listing without an engine bay pic, other than vehicles so smashed the hood couldn't be opened.
