Paint Aluminum rims?

932 Views 9 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  T-Hawk
I was just wondering if paint sticks very well to aluminum rims that have kind of a rough surface to them? I just saw a pic of a truck with 33's on it with black rims.. really makes the whole truck look better and the tires look bigger too. Was thinking about doing mine the same way. How do you think it would turn out? I honestly think it might look kind of dumb with the big holes in the wheels... Pic here:

Sticks fine as long as its prepped right. A beadblasting would be the first step
If you cab spare the cash, have them powdercoated. A set of wheels will usually cost you about $250 to have done. That includes blasting and stripping, and then most powdercoaters I have talked to always double coat wheels because they tend to get scratched easilly.
I had mine done 3 years ago and when I wash them they still look brand new. There is a few light surface scratched in them, but they don't even go through to the aluminum. I know if it was just regular paint they would be scratched all to hell.
