I was just wondering, I have an 84 bronco and it looks like it has 2 cat converters? If I were to eliminate the 2nd one to make way for a new exhaust will it still pass NYS inspection.

it just needs to pass the visual emission inspection,

long as it aint to loud and it looks orginal it will pass the visual emissions, worst comes to worst, call up your local shop that does the NYSI and ask em, they should give ya a strieght answer about it

haha. i called about my 85 to a few places. has to be 25 till they get rid of the dyno. still using the damn sniffer. luckly i found a place that does the special one. hehe.

I guess it depends on where in NY you live. Up here, 70 N of NYC, the only inspection for vehicles 1993 and older is a visual.

The two cats do different functons, if you add a modern cat, it combines both functions into one cat. The air pipe connects to the tube comming out the middle of the new cat. In the old style, it connects between them.

I think that one filters hydrogens and the other filters nitrogens or carbons. not sure. ;P
