Sooo, it was 90 and humid yesterday. Too hot for the Brick Nose, so I cruised my Elky.

Miami Marine Stadium, vacant since Hurricane Andrew. I saw Jimmy Buffet in concert early 80s. There’s vids on YouTube. Also saw Miss Budweiser turbine hydroplane. They used to race here. I loved the old Merlín piston engines better. Awesome times back then! I was early 20s....thought I was da man!

Are any of us young enough to name this all-girl band from the 70's, or at least on this forum, old enough?

driving home in my F250 friday night, truck was doing great will i coasted up to a light. soon as i stopped engines is locked up. fantastic breaking down on a highway. someone was nice enough to pull me to a parking lot, spent some time diagnosing it, unable to turn crank with breaker bar but was able to slightly budge the engine each time with starter. was able to rotate engine a few revolutions with bumping starter enough so i assumes maybe something in trans is locked up. trans was rebuild recently so i had my hopes up under warranty, especially with how well engine was running. with a crappy ordeal with AAA got it towed 4 hours later.

pulled trans away from engines yesterday and converter spins and engine does not. spur of the moment because it was getting late on a Saturday, managed to find a salvage yard open an hour away with an 96 Explorer 5.0 engine for only 400$. rushed to get it before they closed, got it amazing deal. salvage yard 96 Explroer engines are a hidden gem, roller 302, GT40 heads and intake, EV6 injectors, and if lucky 135amp alt when mine didnt come with.

i have had a rear main seal leak since i replaced it last year. few months ago i overheated the engine alot really baddly and the leak got alot worse. i guess the heat actually warped the PTFE rear main seal cause now its all wavy. im guessing i ran it too low on oil and it must have grabbed the bearing while doing a turn. there was zero metal in pan or on drain plug, oil looked fine considering i have to add quart or 2 every hundred miles

so more news on this engine swap. the new engine i bought yesterday had matching numbers oil still in it! jk but i started to disassemble the engine to start swapping the goods onto it from the old engine. buuuuut.... i think im going to keep the GT40 heads and stock cam in it because this is defiantly a temporary engine till i can rebuild the old into a 347 and i dont want to risk my aluminum heads. i pulled the drain plug and the oil didnt even come out, i had to use a rod to whip it up to get it to start draining because it was such pudding. and the waterpump was completely corroded seized. so the expected lifespan of this engine is low.

swapping stuff is also been super slow. you would think to swap waterpump, timing cover, oil pump/pickup, pan, and lower intake would be couple hours. but its been like all day. 3 of the 4 corner lower intake bolts snapped as expected. 2 waterpump bolts broke as expected. didnt even bother doing anything wqith them, jsut rtv the heck outta it. its finally ready to drop in the truck so i guess i better go do that
