Power Window Problems

I did a search and I just want to confirm. I ordered a Torque Pin replacement kit with the gear for about $20. The problem I have is the Passenger Window is slipping and sometimes needs help manually to get it up. The rear window is not moving now at all but the motor is turning. From what I have read this is a common problem and the torque pins need to be replaced.

Did I order the right thing? Are there any things I need to know before hand that will save me some hassle once I attack the problem? The reat window is stuck and will not close all the way, so I need to get that one done soon.

Door Motor

Six...it was the door motor. I'll try messing with the set screw to see if I can get'er working. If that dos'nt work I'll hit it with a frickin' hammer!

Six - It worked. I first did some adjusting with the screw, did'nt seem to help. Then I gave it a few taps around the canister and I got slight movement. Form there I played with the screw and kept tapping until it was constent. The same thing probably happend to my other window motor a few years back. Good thing I kept it...you never know what parts you can salavage. The torque pins on the "removed" unit were in better shape then the ones I currently had in. So I swapped them out, slammed some grease in, installed and voila! Window working smooth!

Lessons learned...a summary:
1) Before you think your motor is all bad check the torque pins and gear
2) Work with the adjusting screw
3) If that dosn't work...tap it with a hammer...man's best friend!
4) Always save parts that may be useful down the road!!!!

Thanks everyone...you just saved me $35-$45!

bringing this back from the dead to verify that if the window motor takes the window down, but not up, it could still be the bushings??

Yeah, it can be. 2 of my windows were like that before replacing the pins, & now the 3rd is doing the same thing.

Does it make any noise when you try to put it up? If so, it sounds like it's probably the torque pins. If it doesn't make any noise, then you're looking for an electrical problem.

Great thread, my rear window just stopped working after a couple of years of intermittant service. I thought I was in for big buck repair or just living with it. Can't wait to get home this weekend and fix her.

This is great! thank you all for posting this. One question before I go buy the plastic bearings/parts. Are the power windows the same through all years? I have a 94 Eddie Bauer. The pics are of an 88 Bronco.

two questions....

my passengers side window is stuck down, it wont budge either, motor seems to be completely shot, no power coming from it at all..

1. it looks easy to replace and drill the holes, but will the window being stuck down, get in the way of the replacement of the window motor?

2. can you purchase window motors at a parts store, or are they too specific of a part, and have to order online?

1. no the window will not be in your way when trying to access the motor. The motor is located left of the track and window.
2. I just recently (as of last week) purchased a remanufactured motor from O'Riellys/Checker/whatever. So yes you can get them from the auto store. Just let them know year or bronco, motor, etc. I was able to score the reman motor for $39 with discount! Normal will cost around $50.

sweet, well I can see what I'll be doing this afternoon /tomorrow if I'm too lazy haha

so its literally just 3 or 4 bolts, then cut wires, re attach wires to the new motor, bolt back in, and done?

Assuming that the motor has never been serviced, you will need to drill the one hole (dimpled) to gain access to the hidden bolt. UNbolt, pull motor, clip wires, insert new motor...rewire...viola!

Seriously bud...this took me 5 minutes to do the last time. Of course I have become somewhat of an expert over the years!

I felt like a one-man NASCAR pit crew!

haha nice, okay, it just seems too easy I think haha. It looks like I could get it from Summit shipped for 43 or 59 in the store, I'll prob spend the extra money and get it today, so I can get it done, and take the plastic bag off the door :doh0715:

If you have never done it before, give yourself 30 minutes. Reread some of the how-to posts before your motor comes that way you have all the tools ready and you know exactly what to expect. Have fun...good luck!

thanks for your help xris, and to stagmata I think it was, who had the write up. I got a new one for 58 bucks plus tax at Autozone today, and its installed now, works great... Although it looks like it was the pins in the other one, so I could have just got the pin set, but we live and learn, I'm just happy its working

Did you have a core return? Or do you still have the old motor? If you still have the old motor spend a little more, get the torque pins and have a back up! The passenger side window motor also is a direct replacement for the tailgate motor...just an FYI.

nope no core return, I kept the old motor cuz it ran, and it runs at a decent speed, definitly not gonna pitch it, I'll have to do that, because it shouldn't be long till the rear motor breaks, although the pins were fixed, its still slow..

Another one added to the list. I took apart the motor and used adrianspeeders photos as help. Perfect. The torque pins are 7 dollars now by the way but after spending 7 on pins 3 on litium grease and 5 bucks at an auto hobby shop for the garage use. I came out with a working window for 15 bucks. Thanks for all your guys help. I took lots of pics but my blackberry sucks and could not upload them.
