is it ok to leave the torque converter attached to the engine when I pull it,or do I HAVE to disconnect it?The nuts retaining it are starting to strip as I try to get them off,and I think it would be easier out of the tranny.

I think I read that once the tranny is off it's not too bad, so you should be alright, you already doing all the work.
You have a C6 right?

The front pump seal is almost exactly like an inner wheel seal. 'cept there's a friggin' shaft sticking out the middle you have to deal with. Not diffiicult by any means.

You have to make real sure the TC is fully seated before you put the engine back in, too. The TC should sit about an inch inside the face of the bellhousing, and it's a bear to get it in right. If you get this wrong and try to bolt up the engine, you get to pull the tranny and put a new pump in it, and probably a new TC.
