i picked up an alternator from the yard today and i was trying to get the pulley off, any suggestions?? its a bolt on pulley on a 3G alt. the entire pulley spins, so its tough.
Did you burp it with an air impact gun ?

If you don't have one, take the socket down to the local garage or that Chev-drivin' fool of a neighbour and get them to give it a quick burst.

Do you mean when you are trying to get the nut off, the pulley just spins? If so, I CAREFULLY placed a screwdriver in on of the deeper gaps for the fan to keep the assembly from spinning. Then it just took holding the alt in place while you apply a little pressure with a socket wrench and it should break loose.

The pulley just slides off after that.
